This is a nice pair of 1961 Perth copper proof coins. The mintage for these proofs was only 1040 of each of the 2 values. The catalogue value of this pair is $3000 (see page 106 of the 20th Edition of Greg McDonald's Australian Coins and Banknotes). The coins are in nice condition, but the halfpenny has 2 small lightly toned areas, notably above the TH of ELIZABETH and between the end of the roo's tail and the A of AUSTRALIA. As well, the
halfpenny has what may be the slight trace of a fingerprint over the
queen's neck and surrounds. Both coins show considerable brightness,
but both are slightly duller than when they were originally minted.
